“Bill toh bana diya, khata mein daalna bhool gaya.”
The classic two-step leak. The bill sits in one place and the khata in another, half the entries never get written down, and by month end nothing reconciles.
Missed entriesPut away the paper bahi and the separate khata app. Raise a normal GST bill in Accountune and whatever the customer has not paid posts straight to their udhaar khata. GST invoicing, inventory and accounting all sit in the same app, with a credit limit for every customer and reminders on WhatsApp. From ₹799/year on web, Android and iOS.

Udhaar & receivables · 2026
Udhaar is the oldest system in an Indian shop and also the leakiest. Remembering harder has never fixed it. A khata that builds itself from the bill closes the leak at the point where it starts.
Accountune is GST billing software with udhaar tracking built in. You raise a normal bill, and if the customer pays part of it or none of it, the balance posts to their khata automatically. You can set a credit limit for each customer, send payment reminders on WhatsApp or SMS, and run inventory and full GST accounting from one cloud app on web, Android and iOS, from ₹799/year.
Where a khata app stops
Khata apps solved a real problem, just not the whole one. Khatabook and OkCredit made the digital khata simple, with credit and jama entries and reminders on WhatsApp, and Khatabook has since added billing, inventory and GST reports. So the question is no longer whether a bill can be raised. The question is how tightly the bill and the udhaar are joined, and how much billing and GST depth sits behind them.
In Accountune the udhaar is part of the bill. You raise a normal GST invoice. If the customer pays half or nothing, the remaining amount goes into their udhaar khata on its own. One entry, one record, nothing typed twice.
One tool instead of three. On a plain khata app the bill is created somewhere else and then the same amount has to be entered into the ledger. In Accountune the bill is the entry. The same invoice produces your GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B data, deducts the stock and posts the accounting. On top of that sits the depth a general khata app does not carry: batch and expiry for medical, serial tracking for electronics, size and colour variants for garments.
What the customer ledger has to do. Call it udhaar, udhar, jama-udhar, len-den, hisab kitab or digital bahi khata. The requirement underneath is always the same. Every customer's party ledger and outstanding in one place, accurate, and joined to the bill. In Accountune every credit sale writes itself into the customer ledger, and the full pending list sits on one screen, with no separate khata app, register or spreadsheet.

6 udhaar failures Accountune fixes
Every one of these happens in Indian shops every month, and each one leaks money you have already earned.
The classic two-step leak. The bill sits in one place and the khata in another, half the entries never get written down, and by month end nothing reconciles.
Missed entriesThere is no separate khata step in Accountune. The moment a bill is saved, the unpaid balance lands in that customer's udhaar khata.
No second stepWithout a limit, an old regular builds up a balance slowly until the account is too big to recover comfortably.
One account goneSet a credit limit per customer. When it is crossed you get an alert, so no single account turns into a quiet risk.
Alert on breachNobody wants to make the call to a regular about ₹2,400. It gets postponed, the due ages, and one day it is too late.
Dues age quietlyA WhatsApp or SMS reminder goes out from the app with the outstanding amount on it, so you are not the one chasing.
Reminder without the callA paper bahi lives in exactly one place. Lost, soaked or left at home, and the whole day's accounting stops.
Bahi gone, hisaab goneThe udhaar is live at the counter, on your phone and on the home computer. Losing the book no longer means losing the record.
Same record everywhereSome of it is on WhatsApp, some in the bahi, the rest in your head. The one number that matters, how much is sitting out in the bazaar, is never in one place.
Total unknownOne list. Who owes what, whose credit limit is close, and the total still out in the bazaar.
One screenPart payments against old bills are where most ledgers go wrong. Money comes in, gets noted loosely, and the party ledger drifts away from reality.
Balances driftRecord the receipt against the specific invoice, whether it is cash, UPI, cheque or a part payment. The party balance corrects itself.
Balance stays trueSet up in minutes
Add the customer, raise the bill, and the udhaar takes care of itself. No separate khata app and nothing entered twice.
Name and number is enough to start. Set that customer's credit limit at the same time if you want the udhaar controlled from day one.
Paid in full, mark it paid. Paid partly or not at all, and the remaining amount goes straight to that customer's udhaar khata. Nothing extra to do.
Enter the receipt against that bill, whether it is cash, UPI, cheque or a part payment. The customer's balance drops on its own.
A WhatsApp or SMS reminder on any pending udhaar, in one tap, carrying the outstanding amount and the bill detail.
Who owes what, whose credit limit is close, and how much is out in total. One screen, live.
Most shop owners have their real udhaar and receivables tracked within a few minutes of signing up.

For an Indian shop that both bills and sells on credit, Accountune is the best-value pick, with full GST billing, udhaar tracking, trade-specific inventory and accounting in one place from ₹799/year on web, Android and iOS. OkCredit is a clean, well-built ledger but it does not raise a GST bill at all, and Vyapar has a genuinely strong offline mode that suits a poor-connectivity shop, though its cloud and cross-device access sit behind higher tiers.

India SME udhaar and payments, 2017 to 2026
Most shop owners notice the udhaar loss only after the money is already gone. A khata joined to the bill stops it at the point where it starts, which is the bill.
Buyer's guide · 2026
Test any tool against these eight questions before committing. Fail more than one and the old udhaar problem comes back quietly.
The udhaar entry should come from the bill. If it has to be entered separately, that is the same double-entry leak.
Accountune
Saving a bill in Accountune creates the udhaar entry. There is no separate step.
Otherwise you run one app for udhaar and another for billing, and the two never agree.

Old dues finally surfaced
“The bill used to be one thing and the udhaar copy another, and half of it never got written down. Now it goes into the khata as I save the bill, and the reminder goes out from the app. The first month it showed me dues I had completely forgotten.”
Three branches, one ledger
“Udhaar and stock across three branches sit in one place now. I can see which buyer owes what without calling anyone.”
All of it in one place
“Pending udhaar used to be spread across a register, WhatsApp and my memory. It is all on one screen now and following up is straightforward.”
Every credit sale recorded
“The software is simple but it does the job. Every credit sale gets tracked, so what each customer owes is always clear.”
The follow-ups happen
“Keeping udhaar in my head was the hard part. The reminders and the daily reports are what I actually use.”
Nothing slips now
“Every udhaar and payment has a proper record. Follow-ups do not get missed and the cash flow is steadier than it was.”

Type a keyword or pick a category. Everything owners ask about udhaar, credit limits, reminders and GST is one keystroke away.
Both, in one place. You raise a normal GST bill, and if the customer does not pay in full the balance moves into their khata by itself. You get proper invoices, inventory and GST returns alongside a live udhaar ledger, without running a separate khata app.
Yes, and it does more than replace it. The paper bahi khata and the shop register go away, but this is not only a ledger. GST billing, inventory and accounting sit in the same place, so the same entry that records the udhaar also raises the bill.
Yes. You can bring your existing customers over and set their opening balances, so the picture you had before is the picture you start with. Support helps with loading customer accounts and outstanding amounts.
Any Indian shop or business that sells on credit. Kirana, medical, hardware, electronics and garment shops, and especially wholesalers and distributors carrying large per-buyer balances. If you have pay-later customers, bill-linked udhaar tracking helps you collect.
Yes. Every party ledger, customer or supplier, and its outstanding balance appear on one dashboard, so you can see who owes how much and whose credit limit is close at a glance.
Yes. Save an invoice as unpaid or part paid and the outstanding is added to that customer's udhaar. Record a payment and the balance drops. Nothing is totalled by hand.
Yes. Set a credit limit per customer so a regular buyer can only take as much credit as you allow. It is the same control wholesalers use for per-buyer limits.
Yes. A WhatsApp or SMS reminder goes out from the app carrying the outstanding amount, so you are not personally chasing every “kal de dunga”.
Udhaar khata matlab har customer ka credit account, jisme aapne kitna diya aur usne kitna jama kiya, dono chalte rehte hain. Farq itna hai ki yahan khata bill se banta hai. Aapko alag se kuch likhna nahi padta.
Yes. What the customer has paid you and what they still owe both appear in one ledger with a running balance. The same as a bahi khata, except it is joined to the bill and updates itself.
There is no small cap on customers or ledgers. Every buyer gets their own khata, whether that is a few dozen counter customers or thousands of wholesale accounts. Plans differ on invoice volume and users, not on how many people you track.
Yes. The bill that creates the udhaar entry is the GST invoice, so your GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B data builds as you sell. Udhaar and GST are not two jobs, they come from the same bill.
Yes. Web, Android and iOS on one plan, all synced. Bill from the phone and the same udhaar shows on the shop computer and to your CA.
Accountune is cloud-only, so it needs an internet connection. The trade-off is that your udhaar is backed up and synced across devices, so nothing is trapped on a lost phone. If your connection is genuinely unreliable, factor that in.
Yes. Everything is backed up and synced on the cloud, so if a phone is lost or replaced your full khata is there when you log in.
Yes. Udhaar and stock across multiple locations sync into one place on higher plans, so every branch's outstanding shows on a single dashboard.
Yes. Give your CA read-only remote access so they can review outstanding udhaar, receipts and GST data without you exporting anything or sharing a login.
Khatabook has added billing, and its udhaar experience is genuinely well built, but its foundation is the khata ledger, so GST and inventory depth stay basic and billing sits on top. Accountune is billing-first: the bill writes the khata, and GST since 2017, trade-specific inventory and full accounting come with it, from ₹799/year on web, Android and iOS.
OkCredit is a clean, focused udhaar ledger and it does that one job well, but it does not raise a GST bill at all. Accountune covers the bill and the udhaar together, plus inventory and accounting.
Vyapar has a strong offline mode that suits a shop with unreliable internet, though mobile and desktop are sold as separate plans and the complete setup costs more. Accountune gives you web, Android and iOS together from ₹799/year, cloud-synced, with the bill posting to the khata by itself. The three-way comparison covers it in detail.
