Walk into any kirana store, hardware shop, or medical store in India and you’ll see the same thing. A busy owner managing customers, suppliers, and staff — all at once. Billing happening on a counter that never stops. Stock moving in and out every hour. GST records that need to be right every single month.
And then, somewhere in the back, a notebook. Or an Excel sheet nobody has fully updated since last Tuesday. Or accounting software that only the CA knows how to operate.
That’s what we saw when we started building Accountune. Not a lack of effort from business owners — they work incredibly hard. But a real gap between the tools available and what Indian small businesses actually needed day to day.
Tally was powerful but complicated — built for accountants, not for the person running the shop. Generic billing apps were simple but shallow — fine for one user raising ten invoices a month, not for a medical store tracking 500 medicines with different expiry dates. International software didn’t understand Indian GST at all.
So we built something from scratch. Specifically for India. Specifically for small businesses. Specifically for the owner who needs to raise a proper GST bill, know what’s in stock, and check today’s sales from their phone at 9pm — without needing a commerce degree or a dedicated accountant sitting next to them.
